The Black and Whites basked in the Bank Holiday sunshine following a scintillating 18-14 victory over Wigan Warriors as once again they were crowned Ladbrokes Challenge Cup Final winners.
A tense and tight affair in the capital saw Wigan in front early through John Bateman. Fearsome wingers Fatuli Talanoa and Mahe Fonua touched down to give the Airlie Birds the lead, before Oliver Gildart’s unconverted try just before half time made it a two-point game.
Fonua’s second score stretched Hull’s advantage and he almost bagged a hat-trick as the holders looked in total control thanks to the left foot of Lance Todd Trophy winner, Marc Sneyd. The Warriors, aiming for a record 20th title, weren’t finished though and Joe Burgess narrowed the gap before a last minute forward pass denied the Wigan winger a try to tie the game.
Cue the celebrations amongst Hull supporters as Lee Radford’s side savoured the sweet feeling of back-to-back Ladbrokes Challenge Cup Final success.
Highlights from every round right through to the pulsating semi-finals on the ‘Road to Wembley’.
